Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu presents a Plaque of Appreciation to Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año in recognition of the valuable contribution and support of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in the rehabilitation of Boracay Island and the on-going clean-up of Manila Bay. The DILG is part of the triumvirate of the DENR and the Department of Tourism (DOT) which heads both the Boracay and Manila Bay Task Forces. The same recognition was also given to DOT and the Department of Public Works and Highways during the 32nd anniversary of the DENR held Friday (June 14) at the DENR Central office in Quezon City. ###

Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatugives credit to the entire workforce of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the agency’s major achievements during the DENR’s 32nd anniversary celebration held Friday in Quezon City. Cimatusaid to his official family thattheir “knowledge, hardwork and perseverance led to the successful rehabilitation efforts in Boracay and Manila Bay and the return of the illegal waste to Canada.”He also said that no other time in the agency’s history since its creation in 1987 has the DENR been entrusted with responsibilities as heavy as now. ###

In consonance with this year’s Environment Day theme: Beat Air Pollution, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) gives out free ornamental plants, such as golden lily, santan and San Francisco to members of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines-Manila Council during the 121st anniversary celebration of the Philippine Independence on June 12, 2019 at the Rizal Park in Manila. Itsbureaus and attached agencies, namely the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau, Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Environmental Management Bureau, Laguna Lake Development Authority and National Mapping Resource and Information Authority, likewise shared their printed educational materials to the Independence Day revelers (inset), with subjects ranging from geo-hazard zones to wetlands in the Philippines, threatened wildlife species and impacts of pollution on public health and the environment, among others.A photo exhibit onthe DENR’s various efforts in rehabilitating Manila Bay, including the clean-up initiatives participated in by various stakeholders in rivers and esteros that empty into the bay arehighlighted in the exhibit booth. ###
