The Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) teamled by Assistant Director Armida Andres (2nd from the left) tries out the Ilocano delicacy called the “Chichaworm,” one of the finished products in the cooking demo segment of the “Samu’t Saring Tikim Fair.” In this portion of the program, aptly called “Balik-Tikim,” the audience is re-introduced to native ingredients, such as worms, to cook healthy and sustainable meals for their families. The food fair, held at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center in Quezon City, highlights the local celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDBD), with theme “Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health.” ###

PEF is the primary government partner that carries out conservation activities on the Philippine eagle such as rescue, rehabilitation and breeding at the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao City. The Philippine eagle is critically endangered and it is estimated that there are less than 400 pairs left in the wild. Sambisig, a17-year-old captive-bred female Philippine eagle, is one of the raptors that will be sent to Singapore under the Wildlife Loan Agreement (WLA) between the DENR and the Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS). Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatusigned the WLA with Dr. Cheng Wen-Haurdeputy chief executive officer and chief life sciences officer of WRS at the DENR OSEC Conference Room on May 20, 2019. Born on November 17, 2002 in Mindanaoto her parents, Sam and Diamante, the female raptor and her partner, Geothermica will be staying at the Jurong Bird Park in Singapore. The 15-year-old Geothermica is a captive-bred male Philippine eagle born to his parents Junior and Kahayag in Mindanao on January 7, 2004. Geothermicais one of the two Philippine eagles that will be loanedto Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) through a Wildlife Loan Agreement signed Monday between DENR Secretary Roy A.
