Mangrove Planting, protecting our Coastlines

Winding up his productive workweek, DENR – Ilocos Region Regional Executive Director Atty. Crizaldy M. Barcelo seen on photo (Top photo 2^nd from the left) with La Union PENR Officer Maximo Soriano (extreme left) during the mangrove planting last Friday August 7, 2020 which aims to enhance the PNP adopted NGP site in Samara, Aringay, La Union.  32 members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the community participated in planting 1,000 propagules of bakawan within the 1.0 hectare area.

Mangroves protect shorelines from damaging storm and hurricane winds, waves, and floods. Mangroves also help prevent erosion by stabilizing sediments with their tangled root systems. Mangrove Forest serve as the breeding ground for several marine species and serves as filter for wastes.
