To promote a healthier ecosystem, the Dearbor3partment of Environment and Natural Resources Offices Region I took part to various activities for Arbor Day and Philippine Environment Month last June 25, 2021. Arbor Day was established to inculcate the importance of planting trees and rehabilitating the environment was stressed in Proclamation No. 643 that amended Proclamation No. 396, s. 2003.

 

Regional Executive Director Atty. Crizaldy M. Barcelo, CESO III joined the Nationwide Tree Planting Day Activity at Daang Kalikasan, Mangatarem, Pangasinan with Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services, For. Felix C. Taguba; PENR Officer Maximo Soriano; and CENR Officers For. Rico Biado, For. Franck Vincent Danglose, and For. Chester Casil.  This is a collaboration with the Society of Filipino Foresters Incorporated (SFFI), ProfessionaARBOR 5l Regulation Commission (PRC), and DENR which will grant them and all Professionals with free six (6) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit units.

SFFI La Union Chapter in a similar activity at Basca, Aringay, La Union with Foresters from the Regional Office and PENRO La Union planting over 416 narra seedlings.  Simultaneously, PENRO Ilocos Sur conducted tree planting activities in various locations. Two (2) of the identified sites are in Alilem along the Lower Bakun River which is Region I's official entry for the Recognizing Individuals/Institutions towards Vibrant and Enhanced Rivers (R.I.V.E.Rs) for Life Award 2020.

DENR R1, under the Leadership of Regional Executive Director, Atty. Crizaldy M. Barcelo, represented by Incoming Mines and Geosciences Bureau I Regional Director Socrates Gaerlan; PENRO Rosemarie Jornacion and Staff; Mayor Velmor Sumabat; MENRO; Philippine National Police (PNP); Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP); Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Municipal Federation; People's Organizations (POs); and the local community were assigned at Barangay Ana-ao planting fruit-bearing and forest tree species.  CARBOR ENRO Southern Ilocos Sur headed by CENR Officer For. Alfredo Racoma, Jr. and the Office's Foresters, on the other hand, were designated at Barangay Amilongan to plant in consonance with the Tree Planting Advocacy Program of PRC. Some of seedlings planted were distributed during the Municipality's Community PanTREE last June 16-18, 2021.

CENRO Northern Ilocos Sur headed by CENR Officer, Engr. Antonio Ridulme at Magsaysay, Santa, Ilocos Sur joined by LGU Santa, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), PNP, BFP, and local constituents. All three (3) tree planting activities conducted by the Province are simultaneous to the DENR Regional Office’s similar undertaking.

In the same day, other CENRO Southern Ilocos Sur personnel continued with the Office's pledge to bring Libtong Creek which spawns at Libtong, Tagudin, Ilocos Sur into its former glory. This is a regular clean-up every last Friday of the Month initiated by the Office which started way back Philippine Environment Month 2019 in support to the then recently launched 'Manila Bay Clean-up'. At first, it was a joint effort between the Office, LGU Tagudin through its MENRO, Barangay Officials and constituents, and Barangay organizations, now, has multiplied with the help of its LGU governed by Mayor Roque Versoza, Jr., as all other forty-two (42) Barangays of the Municipality came to rehabilitate the creek aiming it to be a recreational area for everybody. (DML-RSCIG)
