Environment Secretary Roy A Cimatu affixes his signature on the Revised Joint Administrative Order (JAO) No. 1-2019 of the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) signifying the renewed commitment of the DENR to the National Convergence Initiative for Sustainable Rural Development Roadmap (NCI-SRD) for 2018-2030. Convergence in the NCI approach was exhibited in the rehabilitation of Boracay Island. The ceremonial signing was held during the NCI-SRD Summit in Iloilo City on July 24, 2019. Other signatories to the JAO are the chiefs of DA, DAR and DILG. ###

Cimatu (right photo) calls on local executives to show “decisive environmental leadership” by riding on President Duterte’s strong political will to solve pollution ills in the country as shown in the ongoing rehabilitation of Boracay and Manila Bay. Cimatu urged the 74 governors and 1,538 mayors present at the “President’s Meeting with Local Chief Executives” held at the Manila Hotel on July 23, 2019, to close ranks with their neighboring provinces, towns and cities to make their respective constituencies resilient to climate change challenges as “environmental concerns usually go beyond territorial boundaries.” ###
