‘Isalvon” – the mascot for the near extinct Isabela Oriole (inset) debuts as the symbol of wildlife conservation program within the 359,486-hectare Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park (NSMNP). The mascot’s unveiling coincided with the launching of the ‘LAWIN Forest and Biodiversity Protection System’ which seeks to boost the country’s campaign against illegal wildlife trading and poaching using internet and high-tech wireless communication gadgets. P, Paje (left) presents the three-year agreement for the implementation of the Forest and Climate (FORCLIM) Protection Panay Phase II  to further boost biodiversity protection efforts in Panay Island  through a grant fund of   4-million euro from THE government of Germany through GIZ. German Ambassador to the Philippines Thomas Ossowski (left) congratulates Environment Secretary Ramon J.P. Paje with a handshake after citing the Philippines as “Germany’s strategic partner” in the global efforts to conserve the world’s forests and biodiversities.  The photo was taken during the signing  of  an agreement on  Germany’s granting   of some  4 million euro  for the implementation of   Forest and Climate (FORCLIM) Protection Panay Phase II  which seeks to boost the government’s  conservation efforts in Panay Island whose biodiversity richness is cited as being “globally important.” ###

Jose Luis Fernandez, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) representative to the Philippines, graces Monday’s celebration of International Day of Forests (IFD) held at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Quezon City. Fernandez also served as judge to the photo contest organized by the Forest Management Bureau, which drew more than a hundred entries from photo enthusiasts nationwide. The photo contest was anchored on theme, Forests and Water. ###

Officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) led by Undersecretary Analiza Teh (left) view carefully the top 20 photos as they serve as judges in the photo contest conducted by the Forest Management Bureau (BFD) in consonance with the annual celebration of March 21 as the International Day of Forests. Themed “Forests and Water,” the photos, currently on display at the DENR lobby, were screened from more than a hundred entries from various photo enthusiasts nationwide. Other judges are (to Usec Teh’s left) Assistant Secretary Anselmo Abungan, Assistant Secretary Marcial Amaro, and FAO representative to the Philippines Jose Luis Fernandez (right).
