‘Isalvon” – the mascot for the near extinct Isabela Oriole (inset) debuts as the symbol of wildlife conservation program within the 359,486-hectare Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park (NSMNP). The mascot’s unveiling coincided with the launching of the ‘LAWIN Forest and Biodiversity Protection System’ which seeks to boost the country’s campaign against illegal wildlife trading and poaching using internet and high-tech wireless communication gadgets. Officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) led by Undersecretary Analiza Teh (left) view carefully the top 20 photos as they serve as judges in the photo contest conducted by the Forest Management Bureau (BFD) in consonance with the annual celebration of March 21 as the International Day of Forests. Themed “Forests and Water,” the photos, currently on display at the DENR lobby, were screened from more than a hundred entries from various photo enthusiasts nationwide.
