"Plant a tree, sire a son, write a book," an old quote saying what a man should do during his time on earth which was also underscored by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Region 1 Executive Director Atty. Crizaldy M. Barcelo during the program. This was manifestes by the 3 great enviornmental leaders and advocates during the Mangrove Planting where they led the planting of 1,000 propagules and 1,000 seedlings along the 2,000 sqm. coastline of Sual, Pangasinan. (RSCIG)

The Undersecretary for Solid Waste Management and LGU Concerns Benny D. Antiporda (in white shirt) points at the Urdaneta City, Sanitary Landfill in Pangasinan which needs improvement and has to comply with the parameters as required in RA 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 which is on its 20th year of implementation.  USec. Antiporda warned the SLF operator and gave them until end of February 2021 to comply, if not, the facility will face closure as the DENR pushes to stop the operation of non-compliant solid waste facilities. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region- I (DENR- I) frontliners underwent SWAB Testing and all personnel received anti-flu vaccines as defense against the COVID- 19 pandemic. To ensure a virus- free environment, the Engineering and Architecture Services (EAS) of the City Government of San Fernando, La Union likewise, conducted a series of cleaning and disinfection

protocols to ascertain every DENR- I employees’ health and welfare to deliver basic services to the public.

The Department of Health, Region- I (DOH-I, Provincial Health Office of La Union, and the City Government of San Fernando, La Union extended assistance to the officials and employees of DENR- I headed by Regional Executive Director Atty. Crizaldy M. Barcelo to combat the COVID- 19. The agency also received personal protective equipment (PPEs) like face masks, face shields, medicines and alcohols.

Presidential Adviser for Northern Luzon Sec. Raul L. Lambino lauded the leadership of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources here in Region 1 for being proactive in advancing development through private and public partnership and collaboration. “You’re doing a good job here in Region 1,” Sec. Lambino quipped immediately after the presentation of the Daang Kalikasan Developmental Framework by the team headed by Regional Executive Director Atty. Crizaldy M. Barcelo.

Sec. Lambino’s visit to the Province of Pangasinan particularly in the town of San Quintin, was very promising as he vowed for the preparation of resolutions and measures to augment and assist the town of San Quintin as well as support the developmental proposal of the DENR in the region especially for Daang Kalikasan towards a greener infrastructure. ###

Winding up his productive workweek, DENR – Ilocos Region Regional Executive Director Atty. Crizaldy M. Barcelo seen on photo (Top photo 2nd from the left) with La Union PENR Officer Maximo Soriano (extreme left) during the mangrove planting last Friday August 7, 2020 which aims to enhance the PNP adopted NGP site in Samara, Aringay, La Union.  32 members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the community participated in planting 1,000 propagules of bakawan within the 1.0 hectare area.

Mangroves protect shorelines from damaging storm and hurricane winds, waves, and floods. Mangroves also help prevent erosion by stabilizing sediments with their tangled root systems. Mangrove Forest serve as the breeding ground for several marine species and serves as filter for wastes.
