Professor Grace Odal-Devora (right) of the University of the Philippines – Manila  performs the “Sayaw ng Babaylan” to kickstart the program for celebration of Earth Day 2019 at the Ampitheater of the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center in Quezon City on April 24. A babaylan is a precolonial female shaman for the ancient Filipino people. In this dance, the babaylan asks the Bathala or the Supreme Deity to let it rain in the country and for the earth to be fertile so that it may yield abundant harvest. Prof. Odal-Devora also gives tribute to the four elements: air, water, earth, and fire with her spirited dance movements. ###
