WWaterD 2“Accelerating Change through Partnership and Cooperation”, underscores this year’s observance of World Water Day on March 22. The theme focuses on the importance of working together to address water-related challenges and advocate sustainable management.

As the world faces water and sanitation crisis, #WWD2023 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to unite around water and foster large-scale commitments from the government, academe, institutions, companies, and coalitions to accelerate change to solve the pressing issues on water and sanitation.

To call for more actions and accelerate change, DENR-1 through the collaboration of the Licenses, Patents and Deeds Division and Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group conducted a communication, education, and public awareness activity (CEPA) on water conservation and management to fifty-five (55) third-year environmental studies students of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) North La Union Campus in Bacnotan, La Union on March 22, 2023.

The environmental lecture highlighted the world water and sanitation crisis lectured bWWaterD 1y IO Jenny Pugal of RSCIG, water regulating laws, and policies lectured by DMO I Magdalena Dumpit of LPDD, water quality monitoring, and watershed management by EMS II Ermenio Budeng, Jr. of EMB-1, and Tayo and Kalikasan program of DENR by SCDO Renelita Santos of RSCIG.

Students voiced their commitment to play part in making a difference by changing the way they use, consume, and manage water in their lives. They promise to be the hummingbirds of their generation and do what they can to help accelerate change.

An international day to celebrate water was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day.
