Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) MIMAROPA Regional Executive Director Henry Adornado (right photo) inspects illegally cut lumber of assorted species found in the vicinity of Bgy. Pasadena in El Nido, Palawan where DENR Forest Ranger Bienvenido S. Veguilla, Jr. was brutally killed on September 4, 2019. Piles of sawn lumber totaling 957.5 board feetwere found in four separate areas including one near a makeshift kiln for charcoal making (left photo). The lumber, identified as apitong, manga-manga and malasantol, were hauled and are now kept in safety as evidence for the filing of charges including murder, attempted murder, and violations of Presidential Decree 705 or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines and Republic Act 9175 or the Chainsaw Act of 2002 against the suspects. ###

Employees of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) join fellow workers in government in the R.A.C.E to SERVE (Responsible, Accessible, Courteous and Effective Public Service) fun run held at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on September 1. The activity, which kicks-off the 119th anniversary of Philippine Civil Service, is anchored on the theme, “CSC at 119: Upholding Integrity and Building High-Trust Society.” The run is for the benefit of the Pamanang Lingkod Bayani (PLBi) Program which honors government officials and employees in the country who died in the line of duty. Around 17,000 government employees and sports enthusiasts joined the 3, 5 and 10-kilometer fun run this year. ###

Lawyers from the Legal Affairs Service (LAS) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) get their hands dirty as they clean the coastline of Barangay SipacAlmacen in Navotas City as part of the rehabilitation of Manila Bay. After the cleanup, the lawyers provided free legal assistance to the residents who participated in the activity. LAS lawyers were joined by the DENR Lawyers Guild Inc., the Integrated Bar of the PhilippinesMalabon-Navotas Chapter, and the Public Attorneys Office in Quezon City.###

Lawyers of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Legal Affairs Service hold a free legal consultation in BgySipac-Almacen in Navotas as part of the Manila Bay clean up efforts. Dubbed as “Payo pang legal ang alay ko pag basura mo linisin mo,” the consultation aims to encourage the residents of the barangay to participate in the rehabilitation of Manila Bay by joining the clean up of the Navotas-Malabon River.  For every sack of garbage collected, the residents get a coupon which will entitle them to a free legal assistance.
