Biodiversity Management Bureau Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez (inset) underscores the current state of wetlands, saying these are treated as “wastelands” and are among the most threatened ecosystems in the world. In a recent visit to the Candaba wetlands on Saturday, Feb. 2, for the celebration of the 2019 World Wetlands Day, she indicated a decreasing trend in the number of migratory birds visiting the Candaba wetlands in Pampanga, from 64 species in 2016, 42 species in 2017, down to 30 species in 2018, as per report of DENR-Region 3 in its annual migratory bird count. ###
