Boracaynons (right photo) welcome Aklanons (left photo) as the very first guests of Boracay Island on Day 1 of the island’s dry run on October 15. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte ordered the closure of Boracay to both local and international tourists on April 26, 2018 upon the recommendation of the Departments of Environment and Natural Resources, Tourism, and Interior and Local Government to pave the way for its rehabilitation. During the opening ceremony for the 11-dry run held Monday, Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, who chairs the Boracay Inter-agency Task Force, has officially declared that Boracay is no longer a cesspool and its waters is now fit for swimming.###
