DENR 1 Conducts Orientation on FLUP

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 1 (DENR 1) through its Conservation and Development Division (CDD) conducted a two-day re-orientation/ training workshop on Forest Land Use Planning (FLUP) last February 8-9, 2018 at the Sea and Sky Hotel and Restaurant, San Fernando City, La Union.

The training workshop was participated by the Regional Office Technical Working Group (TWG) and representatives from DENR 1 Field Offices. Its objective is to discuss/ re-echo the result of the recently held national workshop on January 16-19, 2018 at BSA Twin Tower, Mandaluyong City focusing on the different proceses to be observed and their enhancement to a better and efficient implementation of FLUP. It aims to orient the participants about the FLUP processes and for them to have a common understanding of the various forest planning activities and concepts in the preparation of the Forest Land Use Plan. This is also to capacitate the DENR staff in providing guidance and assistance to the LGUs and concerned stakeholders in FLUP formulation.

On the second day of workshop, DENR 1 Regional Director Reynulfo A Juan said during his message that, “One of the ten priority programs is on land management and Forest Land Use Plan is part of the land management priority of the Secretary. We don’t plan para lang sa DENR. We should take into consideration the local government kasi ito ang magiging basis nila to prepare at i-formulate ang kanilang Comprehensive Land Use Plan”.

FLUP is a document developed through iterative, transparent, accountable and participatory process to ensure the sustainable management of forests and forestslands providing environment, social and economic benefits to the society. Its objective is to build a concensus and develop recommendations on the best uses of forestlands including the important step of identifying open access areas and determining appropriate management and best resource managers for the open access areas.(RPAO)
