In coordination with the Philippine National Police Region I (PNP-R1) and the City of San Fernando la Union, the Environmental Management bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has Installed the third Differential optical Absorption spectroscopy equipment (DOAS) at the designated Air Quality Management Station (AQMS) at the PNP grounds nin Camp Florendo, Parian San Fernando La Union, to be inaugurated on February 11, 2016 at three o’clock in the afternoon.

EMB Regional Director, Ma. Victoria V. Abrera said that “DOAS is a state of the art equipment that will measure real-time ambient air quality in a certain area.” Further, she said setting up of AQMS is in line with the agency’s primary task to control and abate air pollution in the country pursuant to RA 8749 known as the Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999.s

As the mandate states, and to localize the monitoring of air quality in the city of San Fernando, EMB-I have inked a Memorandum of Agreement withthe Philippine National Police represented by RD Ericson T. Marquez and San Fernando City Headed by Mayor Pablo C. Ortega.

 PNP through its Pulis Kalikasan  Patrol have agreed to support the environmental project by providing a space, security and allowing the EMB to install, construct and operate the station free of charge, while the municipal government of San Fernando La Union will assist the environment sector in the coduct of air monitoring, shoulder the power cost of the station and make use of the results of monitoring in the development and implementation of programs relative to the oibjectives of the EMB clean air project.

On the other hand, the AQMS will help the citizenry of the municipality to be updated on the daily quality of air in the vicinities and be on their toes to control causes of air pollution and sustain the good quality of air and have a healthy environment.
