DENR RO 1 celebrates World Environment Day (WED)

SAN FERNANDO CITY, LA UNION - - - World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated worldwide every 5th day of June and it was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. Commemorating the event annually creates awareness in the midst of the peril of climate change, urging the public to take action on adaptation and mitigation measures.


Highlighting on the theme Sustainable consumption and production and with a slogan “Seven Billion Dreams. One. Planet. Consume with Care”, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Regional Office I, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office - La Union, the City ENRO of San Fernando City, La Union conducted a joint mangrove planting at Brgy. Dalumpinas Oeste, San Fernando City, La Union last June 5, 2015 in support the World Environment Day (WED) 2015.


The activity was also participated by eighty (80) uniformed men and women from the Philippine National Police, Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard, and Barangay Officials of Brgy. Dalumpinas Oeste spearheaded by Chairman Romeo S. Esperanza, Sr. A total of One thousand three hundred (1,300) propagules of bakauan were planted in the coastal area.

The said program is among the countless ways by which the DENR continues its advocacy in protecting the environment and an immense step towards preserving the nature for future generations.


Another activity lined up to drumbeat the celebration of World Environment Day advocating the Clean up along the Government Center, Sevilla, San Fernando City is the “Operation-MIB” or “Operation-Magsidalus Iti Batogna” (clean your front yard) to be held on June 19, 2015. The activity includes massive cleaning of surroundings within the premises of the Government Center in order to increase the awareness and public support on solid waste management program.and the beautification/cleanliness of the surroundings. #aida paday-os/rpao.
