DENR-1 CONFISCATED ALMOST 10,000 BOARDFEET OF LUMBER IN ILOCOS NORTE

A total of 9,649.67 board feet of chainsawn narra and tanguili lumber including the conveyance vehicle - a14-wheeler truck were apprehended and seized by a joint team of the DENR and PNP operatives on April 22, 2015 in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte. This is in pursuance to the provisions of Department Administrative Order 1997-32 or the Rules for the Administrative Adjudication of Illegal Forest Products and the Machinery, Equipment, Tools and Conveyances.

A team led by CENR Officer Victor C. Dabalos of DENR-CENRO Bangui, Ilocos Norte pursued the truck from Bangui and intercepted this with the assistance of the MPS Bacarra Police Assistance Center along the National Highway of Barangay 19-A Tambidao, Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.

The on-site offenders who are all residents of Pampanga were arrested and indicted for violation of Section 68 of P.D. 705 of Forestry Code. They are now detained at the Ilocos Norte Provincial Jail awaiting further processes.

The seized items with an estimated valued of Php 604,271.20 are now impounded in the DENR Central Office compound.

In line with the agency’s mandate on enforcement of forest protection laws, newly-installed Region 1 Environment Chief Paquito T. Moreno, Jr. lauded the efforts of CENRO Bangui as “this is an indication of the agency’s intensified drive against illegal logging” in the region.

The source/origin of the illegal forest products is still being investigated upon because of inconsistencies in the transport documents (Estrella E. Patrimonio)
