DENR-I enjoins the Youth in the Celebration of

 2015 World Wetlands Day

 

         This year’s celebration of World Wetlands Day on February 2, 2015 mark the adoption of the Ramsar Convention. With the theme “Wetlands for Our Future”, the celebration focuses on the involvement of the youth and raising awareness relative to wetlands.

        DENR-I through PENRO (Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office) of Pangasinan has lined up various activities which include launching of Wetlands Youth Photo Contest. The contest is open to individuals aged 15-24 years old involved in the photography of wetlands all around the country or in their communities and uploading these photos in the World Wetlands Day website between February 2-March 2, 2015.   

     Also in line with the launching of PENRO Pangasinan of Wetlands Exposure and Nature Day for the Youth, the activity starts with an assembly in Dagupan City for a travel to the Bangrin Wetlands in Alaminos/Bani, Pangasinan.

       The participants will be enriched with experience about the significance and values of wetlands and their various benefits. Other activities include lecture, bird watching, photo documentation and island hopping at the Hundred Islands National Park (HINP) in Alaminos City.

       Likewise, the afternoon will be devoted to a tour/visit at the Sual Power Plant with an orientation and plant tour, a visit to the Ash Disposal area and its nearest wetland including the livelihood projects and its reforestation area.

       The event aims to intensify awareness on environment  and creating a better understanding of our wetlands and its contribution to the ecosystem and its crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance and concentration of biodiversity and water resources.(A. Paday-os/RPAO)
