MGB 1 conducted one-day Orientation-Seminar on Confiscation and Seizure of Minerals, Mineral Products

         Attended by eighty  one (81)  Police Commissioned and Non-commissioned  Officers  of Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Region 1, San Fernando City, La Union  had conducted a one-day seminar on confiscation and seizure of minerals and mineral products.

          The initiative was carried out basically to equip  the police officers  with sufficient  knowledge and information specifically on Executive Order No. 79 and  Sec. 118 of DAO no. 2010-21 of RA 7942.  It was held on June 11, 2013 at Makatarungan Center, ISPPO Headquarters, Camp President Elpidio R. Quirino, Brgy. Bulag, Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

          Earlier, the DENR-MGB thru the OIC-Regional Director, Carlos A. Tayag had issued a Special Order deputizing the police officers that give them the authority to arrest offenders and confiscate/seize illegally-sourced minerals and mineral products including tools, equipment and conveyances used in the commission of offense within their jurisdiction.

          The topics that were discussed during the seminar include concepts and legal framework and procedures in the confiscation and seizure of illegally sourced minerals and mineral products, presented by Engr. Roel A. Collado and Atty. Arlyn Katherine C. Buduhan of MGB-1.

           The deputation of police officers and conduct of orientation seminar were  the priority efforts of MGB-Region 1  for the immediate stoppage of the rampant illegal black  sand mining in the municipalities of San Vicente and Caoayan, Ilocos Sur.
