DENR Region 1 celebrates Philippine Water Week with adopt-a river/estero partners

Various donor-partners signed Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 1 led by RED Samuel Penafiel  Friday March 2) during the kick-off celebration of the Philippine Water Week at Dagupan City.

The adopt-an Estero /River Program being spearheaded by Environmental Management Bureau RD Joel Salvador has been encouraging various establishments, LGUs and other environmentalist groups to become partners of DENR in maintaining the water quality along major rivers in the Region. RD Salvador presented to the group the status of the water bodies before the first batch of (32) donor partners who adopted respective areas adopted last year. He presented the water quality of each river as to their pH Concentration, Dissolved Oxygen, Biochemical Oxygen Demand, Total Suspended Solids, Total Colliform and Fecal Colliform.., So far, the majority of the river has a normal quality or under the DENR Water Quality Criteria for class C waters. Again this year, a second batch of donor-partners led by Hon. Mayor Mary Joy Pangasinan inked a MOA on adopt-a river project.   

 Donor-partners who signed MOA during World Water Day last year are: Coca Cola Bottlers, Inc., Nepo Mall, Carmak Motors, Jollibee Foods Inc., Toyota Dagupan,  Honda Cars Pangasinan., Nazareth General Hospital,  Northern Cement Corp., Ginebra San Miguel Inc., Magic Group of Companies, CSI Warehouse Club, RLL Group of Companies., Dagupan Doctors Villaflor Hospital, Pangasinan- Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club of Urdaneta, and Rotary Club of Urdaneta.East., MAR-Tan Ent., SERVO Treat Phils, Inc., Delta Comm., APO Alumni Ass’n., Urdaneta City Nat’l High School, Holcim Phils-Bacnotan, Pollution Control Ass’n of the Phils., Inc., Rosario Alliance of Tricycle Operators, Farmers Ass’n . for Innovative Technologies and Harvest,  Phil. Guardians Brotherhood Inc., Volunteer Disasters Coordinating Council., Inc.,  Cataguintingan Neighborhood Ass’n., Samahang Ilocano, Rosaio Chapter, Rosario Riders, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation North and Central Luzon,  and Silverio’s Seafood and Restaurant. It can be recalled that Sinocalan River was proclaimed under WQMA project.
