DENR Ilocos Region partners and stakeholders given recognition during Gawad Parangal rites
The finale of the Environment Month 2019 celebration after a series of month- long activities is the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region- I (DENR- I) Culminating Program held at Marand Resort and Spa, Bauang, La Union last July, 19, 2019. The occasion was also in line with 32nd Anniversary celebration of the DENR.
DENR- I Culminating Program is the best time and opportunity to honour the awardees in the main event, “Gawad Parangal sa Kalikasan,” wherein various partners and stakeholders in the region were accorded and given recognitions for their unwavering support and contribution to the programs and advocacies of the agency particularly in the protection, preservation and conservation of the environment and natural resources. Out 60 candidates, 46 of the environmental partners were given recognition for their worthy initiatives beyond their mandates. The awardees were the following: 1. Material Recovery Facility (MRF) financial assistance were also awarded to selected Local Government Units while the winners in the Environmental Jingle Making Contest received their prizes and recognitions. Gawad Parangal was conceptualized to commend the environmental partners in the region including national government agencies (NGA), non- government organizations (NGO), schools, media and private individuals. DENR- I including its line bureaus, Mines and Geosciences, Region- I (MGB- I) and the Environmental Management Bureau, Region- I (EMB- I) have been always committed to the environmental protection and recognize partnership with stakeholders in the formulation of environmental policy framework for the ecological utilization of the country’s natural resources.
Guest of honor and speaker during the event was La Union Governor Emmanuel Francisco “Pacoy” Ortega III who was represented by La Union District II Board Member Abraham Rimando. DENR- I Regional Executive Director Carlito M. Tuballa quoted an inspirational adage to the awardees, “You are not just our partners but an ally in caring, conserving and protecting the environment,” he said. MGB – I Regional Director Carlos Tayag also stated in his closing message, “ We are committed to implement environmental protection and management program as we do our best efforts to reconcile economic development with the protection of our natural resources.” (RPAO)
